Despite the Chips... we did stay... I will let KR report on it first... I have a few overall observations:
> Menu is larger & cheaper than the Beverly Hills incarnation
> Decor is significantly different... the BH location is small, cozy, inviting with lots of artisinal decor from the Tonala & Tlaquepaque cobble stone artisan suburbs of Guadalajara.... this location... exterior is along the lines of the Barragan / Legorretta architectural paradigm... inside is sparse with some Tamayoesque artwork.
> Menu is mostly traditional Central Mexican dishes with a few Contempoary Alta Cocina dishes.
> The Executive Chef from BH got this incarnation up & running and is overseeing the 2 locations... he was tapped (and I don't believe he is the same chef that opened the first Frida) from an American style steakhouse in Mexico City's Santa Fe business district (the Irvine of Mexico City... modern, suburbia with very superficial glitter and not much substance packed with crappy restaurants like Ruth's Chris etc.,)... the restaurant's style & menu is very much average, mid-level Mexico City Tourist / Financial district place.
