I bought a 20 pound fresh Butterball turkey from Food Lion today, and when I opened my fridge tonight, there was this red juice all over the bottom of the fridge! My husband drained the juices from the turkey (it was in a grocery bag but also still in it's original packaging) and he put it in even more grocery bags and then in a pan). What is this juice and should I throw the turkey away/return it? I wasn't planning on cooking it until Thursday morning, and now if it's still safe I think I'll cook it tomorrow just to be on the safe side... but would it still be safe to wait until Thursday to cook it even if it keeps leaking this red colored juice? I have my fridge set to the coldest setting, and the turkey is at the bottom of the fridge. It also has a slight smell but I expect that because hey, it is a freshly slaughtered turkey.
