Also, my friend David discovered that Bay Cities in Santa Monica makes their own whole milk ricotta fresh on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. If you get it and consume it the same day it was made - wonder. Very hard to describe flavor, except to say it is very essentially *fresh*.
FOr the 4th of July Vegetarian Grill (i'm not veggie, but I'm friends with lots, for some odd reason), highlight was fresh-baked bread grilled with ricotta, raw onions, fresh basil, chopped tomato, and some good balsemic. The ricotta dominated all. The ricotta caused silence and wonder. All loved the ricotta.
