Have you ever looked at the ingredients on a bottle of so-called "Lite" salad dressing? You will find high fructose corn syrup or sugar as a main ingredient - not something you should be eating to stay in shape. A much better alternative is to make your own salad dressing using high quality ingredients like low-fat yogurt and your own seasonings.
Here’s one I have developed. Don’t use “Lite” mayonnaise, they contain refined sweeteners and taste bogus. You are not using that much per serving so don’t worry about using a little real mayonnaise. It’s the sugar or corn syrup in so called “Lite” dressings that is the problem.
Ranch Low Fat Yogurt Salad Dressing
1 (6 ounce) container plain low-fat yogurt
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tsp. lemon juice or sherry wine vinegar
1 tsp. Dijon-style prepared mustard
1 tsp. Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute
½ tsp. garlic salt
½ tsp. onion powder
Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
In a small bowl, mix together yogurt, mayonnaise, mustard,
and lemon juice or sherry wine vinegar until smooth.
Stir in 21 Seasoning Salute, garlic salt, and onion powder.
Salt and pepper to taste. Chill for 1/2 hour before using.
Will keep for 2 - 3 days in refrigerator, covered.
