Fresh Whole Fish in San Diego

David Stafford | Apr 30, 2003 05:03 PM

My wife and I moved here from NYC about 8 mos ago and we love it--but it has been a challenge finding some food items routinely available in NY...no big surprise. (It took me a week to find San Marzano tomatoes...) A good fish purveyor with whole fish selections has been tough to find. My wife is Greek, so grilling a whole fresh fish--snapper, porgy, seabass, or whatever--with a head and a tail still attached is the ideal. Filets are great, but sometimes you want the whole thing, ya know? Point Loma Seafoods is a terrific place, but with little whole fish selections and way over-priced. Same for Whole Foods in Hillcrest. We have found a grocery store in Linda Vista called Vien Dong that has some pretty nice stuff if you sniff around and that's were we've been shopping--terrific produce, as well. But are there any other places that offer fresh whole fish for retail sale in the San Diego area?

TIA!

David
