Fresh Bites replaces Sandbox

jellyapple | Jan 20, 2003 02:36 AM

This might be old news to some of you, but I discovered only recently that Fresh Bites has replaced Sandbox at 57th and Sixth. They seem to be serving exactly the same type of food, except now you can order a freshly made sandwich and the pastry selection is better. The Greek salad ($5.95), loaded with feta, looked good (except for the canned black olives), as did the turkey sandwich with cranberry chutney, but the portions of tiramisu and some other desserts were very small and over-priced. You can get an unusual Cuban here (so unusual I'm not sure it's still a Cuban -- pork, turkey, pickles, and Russian dressing on sourdough) and Stewart's ginger beer is also available. Unfortunately, the much-appreciated Sandbox policy of half-price sandwiches after 4 pm has been discontinued.
