Frenchy's Cafe - Clearwater Beach

Coyote | Sep 1, 2003 08:25 AM

I had researched and enjoyed Frenchy's Cafe as a good locals joint years before moving to Clearwater, and years before discovering Chowhound. Had been getting my grouper sandwich fix the last few months at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill on the beach, but feeling like avoiding the holiday weekend crowds, decided to return to Frenchy's Cafe. Glad we did, the award winning fried grouper sandwich is worthy of the annual accolades, and the Cajun style grouper sandwich is also excellent. So many places get the hard part, preparing the fish, right, but can't be bothered putting out a decent bun. Frenchy's does not make this mistake. Good French fries, which must be ordered separately, a big improvement on the potato chips otherwise included. Coleslaw features pineapple, a very nice addition. Typical Florida beach casual decor; you might get a vinyl seat with a split in it as I did, but somehow that is OK. Good service. Grouper sandwiches around $7.
