Best French Toast Near Midtown?

I will be in New York in a couple of weeks. We're staying in the Murray Hill area, Midtown, at 39th & Lex. We're 20-somethings, fairly hip and definitely laid back (i.e. I am not looking to ask her to put on white gloves to sip coffee at the Palm Court). She loves French Toast. Where should I take her for a late breakfast / brunch on a Sunday, ideally somewhere excellent but not stuffy / formal?

When I was a kid visiting NYC in the 80's, my Mom would always take us to Sarabeth's kitchen, which I recall as more of a scones & marmalade sort of place; could be a fun option but it's not local to that area and apparently now it is totally overrun with people and has franchised out around the city from it's original UWS location. Price is not a major concern, I'd just like a comfortable atmosphere, very good service and excellent food. Walking distance from Murray Hill a plus so long as the temps aren't sub-zero. Suggestions?

Thanks!
