Does anyone remember the delicious French onion soup served at the old Brasserie on East 53 Street that was open 24 hours? That's the kind I'd love to have for this kind of weather. It had just the right balance of Gruyere cheese, sherry and other ingredients.
I had a bowl last night at L'Express on 20th Street & Park Avenue So. It was good but it wasn't great. I also did a quick search on the Chowhound boards but many of the recommendations I saw were for La Bonne Soup which I was never crazy about in its heyday - IMO, it's too midtown, busy and overpriced for what it is - and places in New Jersey.
Any updated suggestions will be really appreciated. Thanks, Ruby
