In late 2014, I bought appliances for my newly remodeled kitchen. I decided, after some research, to go with the GE Café Series. Mostly, I've been happy. But the refrigerator (a counter-depth fridge) quit working in December. Fridge got warm, freezer got very cold. Technician said the main board was out and that the evaporator fan needed to be replaced.
After two months of being without a fridge, Lowe's has finally decided to offer me a buyout because GE won't send the fan.
So I'm going to have to buy a new fridge; reviews suggest that the newer models are no better than the one I have. Multiple reviews report the same kinds of failure that I experienced. I'd like my appliances to match, but not if the GE Café Series refrigerators are all having this same problem.
I know, too, that many appliances are made by one or two companies and branded after the fact. That makes me suspicious of brands like LG, Samsung, Electrolux, etc.
Sub-Zero is too expensive, and Fisher & Paykel models are small and seem to lack features (though I could be wrong about that).
My budget is around $3,000. I'd like something that works reliably.
