A French cafe in Palm Springs

Zoe | Nov 11, 200208:15 PM

OK maybe its a bistro and not a cafe, but we went for lunch on Friday to this little outpost in the Smoketree Shopping Center on East Palm Canyon, east of Sunrise. A good crowd enjoying prompt service, seated out on a patio. We had vichysoisse (excellent) and split a croque monsieur with baby mixed greens, split a lemon tart made on the premises with a cup of coffee (about $20). Saw the dinner menu (its open from 8am to 8 pm Tuesday through Saturday) so since it was a mild night, we tried dinner on Saturday. Excellent - I had tripes with potatoes, SO had beef bourginoin (Sp?) big portion with gratin potatoes and vegetables, (we split the onion soup). The next table had bouche a la mer - large serving brimming with seafood and lamb shank (two) milanese. There were lots of happy grunts from all tables. Charming husband and wife who told us the chef is from Grasse and makes everything from scratch. Worth a hound visit. (BYOB too)
