Freezing spices?

I just bought a bag of ground cumin at a local Mexican market - $1.89. There's easily twice as much as I need to fill the empty cumin bottle which probably cost 2-3 times as much when new. What's the best way to hold onto the extra - freeze? Store in an airtight container at room temp? Throw it away because the $1.89 gave me enough cumin for a year?

Suggestions, please!
