Freezing buttermilk? Does it lose the live cultures?

Hi I am using buttermilk for making sour cream and wanted to freeze some of it since i dont need the whole container.

I wanted to know if it loses any of the live cultures in the butter milk when you buy it from the grocery store.

Will it still work to make my cream? or will it weaken a bit?
