Fred's 62-- less excruciating then in the past

Slow Foodie | Sep 27, 200406:14 PM

I'm in one of those parenting situations where I have one hour every Sunday in the Los Feliz area to lunch two kids. There aren't an enormous amount of options so yesterday, based on comments on this board indicating an improvement, we tried Fred's. I hadn't been there in years. The service is still not what I'd called polished...for example, the sign at the entrance said "please seat yourself" but the hostess seemed to have a bit of a tizzy when we actually attempted to do so. The waitress overcharged us by a couple of bucks on an item and then acted like she was doing me an enormous favor by adjusting the bill. That said, we were in and out in less than 45 minutes which was way better than I'd expected. The food is inexpensive. I had an egg sandwich with chicken sausage on a bun. The bun wasn't the greatest but the fillings were tasty. The kids had burgers and fries which were quite good. They really liked it and I never thought I'd say it, I think we'll be back.
