Saturday was my first visit of the season to the Healdsburg saturday farmers market, better late than never. I was lucky to catch the Cadds here. I understand that they bring their irises only a few times a year. No plantings for me this time, though I had an informative conversation with Mr. Cadd about my Persian hybrids, instead I had my eye on the walnuts for sale. Available in the shell, they're also sold shelled (either halves or broken) for $5 per bag. The quart-size ziplocks are stuffed full and I'm told weigh more than a pound. These are an old variety called Franquette grafted onto a black walnut tree and grown right in downtown Healdsburg. I bought a bag of halves and they are truly halves with good oil content and flavor.
Here's a photo of the banner with the address and phone. By appt only.
