Frank ("purveyors of artisan sausage")

ricodanles | Aug 7, 200908:21 AM

In WH district; old Starlite location.

Dropped in on weekday evening. Half full.

Good sausage menu; really interesting concoctions including, e.g., "Jackalope," an antelope & rabbit sausage with condiment varia. Surprisingly, no poultry choices -- nary a chicken or turkey dog in sight. Need to get that fixed.

Ordered something called a Texas Heat (chipotle is the not-too-secret ingredient here); wife ordered the portebello cheesesteak. Thoroughly respectable, but not top-notch effort.

Generally an excellent concept. Intriguing menu, exceptional list of drinks (some quite weird: Bacon-infused Makers Mark, for instance), friendly service. But they will need to distinguish themselves with the quality of their sausage and dogs from the excellent options otherwise available in shouting distance -- not the least of which are the hot dog trucks lining 6th & WH, purveying tasty dogs for the sloppy drunk late night clientele of the red-light district. (On that last note, Frank owners say that they will be selling sausages out of the front window until 3 a.m. beginning shortly.

We were sad to see Starlite go. We have high hopes for an improved Frank. Anybody else been?
