Frances bakery in Honda Plaza, Little Tokyo

i was there around lunch time yesterday and waiting for Sushi Gen to open so i wandered into Frances, which i had heard was a good Japanese/French bakery.

my friend had a cheese danish which i took a nibble of. it was good, buttery.

i had a apple danish, that was alright. i prefer Europane's apple tarts. but i did eat it a day later (i know, stupid) but the sashimi lunch at Sushi Gen filled me up. when i ate it today, the crust seemed a bit tough but it's likely because of the aging.

friend also has a cherry (spelled cerry) in the display case. she said it was very subtlely flavored. i also had (1) hazelnut and (2) earl gray chocolates. i really liked the hazelnut one, it was very nutty in flavor, and not so much tasting of hazelnut syrups so i'm hoping it was a truly natural flavor. the earl grey was like the cherry, more subtle. if i hadn't known what it was supposed to taste like, i may not even have known it was anything special. our main complaint was that the inside was ...wet.
