The Fountain Court, a fine old Hollywood lunch

Slow Foodie | Nov 14, 200205:25 PM     2

I hadn't been to the Fountain Court at the Hollywood Assistance League on St. Andrews for a bit. They'd been closed for a while for a remodel--although it looks exactly the same to me, perhaps a bit brighter. The menu has been really pared down to four salads and four sandwiches and a daily special. My friend and I both ordered the special which was a dainty steak in a wine reduction with blue cheese. It was really nice, not earth shattering, but comforting. It came with home fries which were slightly limp but not bad tasting. The bill for the two of us, including a beverage was $28.00 but the ordinary menu items are much less. They have added a "high tea" menu which is $15.00 per person but I didn't notice what the offerings were. Tea might be fun at the Fountain Court, it's the perfect little old lady kind of setting--sort of reminiscent of the old Bullock's Wilshire Tea Room. Personally I liked the old menu better but this is really a great non-scene/blast from the past kind of treat. The service staff seems to have completely changed since the remodel and was very warm and professional. On a sad note, the gift shop has been remodelled as well and is far less interesting (but still worth a visit) than it was in the past.
