We tried Big Pink a few months back and have been back since. It's in the Las Olas Riverfront complex (free parking across the street in the government garage on the weekends.) It's designed to look like a subway, I think, and has little TV's embedded in the wall at each booth. Seriously big menu (like a book) and equally big servings. Kids would have an absolute blast here. The only place I know where you can still get a bucket of homemade, hot potato chips (with three dips, for something line $3.95.) They make a mean burger, and homemade fries (why, oh why with 'real' mashed potatoes being all the rage can't restaurants make fries from potatoes, not from a bag!) Warning: they have something called the 'TV Dinner' for around $10. My wife got it and was embarrassed to see a huge stainless steel tray come out piled high with: a chicken parmesan sandwich, a green salad with red wine vinaigrette, a fresh fruit salad, a mountain of homemade fries, a pile of coleslaw, a brick-sized portion of chocolate cake, and maybe more stuff that I don't remember. Easily enough food for 2-3 people, and all of it excellent (well, the coleslaw wasn't so hot, but the overall effect was excellent at least.) There's others in Miami (I've seen one in South Beach, for sure.) If you like a fun, informal place that's easy on the wallet, I'd go with Big Pink.
