In case Hounds haven't heard, Fork in the Road is closed because of a fire that occurred earlier in the week (very sad: the fire was in the apartments above the restaurant, and a person died from smoke inhalation.). According to a post today on their Facebook page, Fork in the Road says the closing will be temporary and they "will keep you posted as to when we are ready to open again."
I drove by the building yesterday. From the outside, it looks like the fire damage was contained to the area above the kitchens. From the south, you couldn't even see anything was wrong until you saw the yellow caution tape strung through the patio pillars.
If you haven't been to Fork in the Road, it's very good and worth the trip. Fresh, classic American. (As strange as it sounds, the Lasagna soup was excellent.) The owner recently won the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Milwaukee Chapter Outstanding Restaurant of the Year award.
Deepest condolences to the family of the woman who passed. Best wishes to FITR - hope you'll be back soon.
