Forget Beard Papa - Poulet's caramel & toasted coconut cream puffs (Bouchon note)

rworange | May 13, 200602:59 PM     8

This is my good deed for this year.

After 2:30 today Poulet on Shattuck in Berkeley will be selling caramel & toasted coconut cream puffs.

Correcty me if I'm wrong you bloggers out there, but the woman who is currently consulting on the desserts at Poulet worked under Thomas Keller at Bouchon and the French Laundry.

Who knew? Thanks to Dr. Biggles for a brief mention about new things going on bakery-wise at Poulet. The doctor might have a drier sense of humor than I suspected as he said the baked goods at Poulet should give Virgina Bakery a run for their money.

Fans of bunrab.com can check out pictures of some of the desserts which include this week (besides the cream puffs)

svelte chocolate pudding with chantilly,

the perfect snickerdoodle

Granny Smith apple, rhubarb and toasted walnut crisp

buttery citrus shortbread

Linzer Torte

the most amazing lemon cream (can you say Tartine?)

moist caramel cake with caramelized butter & vanilla bean frosting.

Ok, I'm quoting the chef's blog on some of the above.

So, I'm sharing this 'secret' and hoping there will be a cream puff left when I get there. Haven't tried this yet, but it is sounding good. Will report back later.
