Just wanted to thank you all. Went up to Portland, ME this weekend and thanks to you had a delightful meal at Fore Street! Loved everything from the breads to the dessert. First class all the way. Esp. enjoyed the roasted mussels you recommended and the duck done both ways - roasted and confit, the side dish of light mashed potatoes and perfectly done squash. All quite delicious. We were pleased with how pleasant and helpful the staff was and we also enjoyed the room - big open space in what appears to be an old factory - where you can watch some of the chefs prepare your food. Given that we're used to Manhattan prices, we were not put off (as some of you were) by the prices here - $18-$25/entree. So thanks again!
The trip was also enhanced by our repeated visits to the Clam Shack in Kennebunkport where we orgasmically enjoyed our lobster rolls three days in a row. Just fresh lobster meat on a homemade round bun with a little butter. Not for those looking for your traditional lobster roll with lobster mixed with mayo and fillers, but definitely our favorite! (note they also serve the lobster roll with mayo spread on the bun). Loved it so much, we bought their lobster meat to go and shared homemade lobster rolls this evening in NY with my parents post-fast for Yom Kippur. Not Kosher but I personally can't imagine a better food to eat after not eating all day.
