Whole Foods Thousand Oaks sneak preview

snackish | Mar 7, 200507:49 PM

They open Weds the 9th at 9 a.m.

I got a tour today and it looks like a lot of fun.

Here are the highlights: The seafood area has expanded by about 10x and will have whole fish that they will fillet for you, a fish grill where they will bbq fish you buy, and seafood soups and salads. A big smoked fish section.

The meat section has a dry-aging case for beef (they get it 7 days aged from Nebraska and age it on site another week or two) and a big section with ropes of smoked sausages. They also have an expanded section of charcuterie and a zillion cheeses, many farmstead.

The wine section is a lot bigger, with many half-bottles. Also a large sake selection.

A coffee roaster on site.

A finish bakery - they get frozen breads and cook them there. Also a tortilla machine where they make both corn and white tortillas.

A gelato bar with Ciao Bella gelatos. About 30 feet of salad bar.

Twice the size of the old store of health & beauty aids and supplements.

A wood-burning pizza oven, sushi bar, noodle and rice bowls, hot bar with entrees and soups.

About 20 tables in the front part of the store and another 15 or so outside.

It all looks very pretty and clean. I can't wait to go shopping.
