Today I went to Whole Foods in Glendale and ordered their Chicken Sate from the asian/sushi cook to order counter. One of the employees brought out a metal container from the refidgerator of very tired looking marinated chicken bits to place on the grill. Hand printed on the side of the storage container was the date April 29, 2005. I asked if the chicken had been siting in the cooler for that long, and the employees said 'yes'. I told them thanks but no thanks and left. Just a word of caution to others. Maybe it's just me, but this seems really antithetical to the Whole Foods concept.
