foodies

tried this place last night. it's on wilshire/barrington in a strip mall on the second floor.

the owner, jonathan, is one of the former owners of jack sprat on pico/overland. although the concept of the new place, foodies, is similar to jack sprat, it is much improved. for starters, the menu is larger. and while there are many healthful and/or vegetarian options on the menu (i.e., veggie tortilla soup, air-baked fries, bbq tofu with crispy spinach), it does not cater soley to health conscious eaters--that is, it does not sacrifice taste.

when you sit down, instead of bread, they serve warm, soft pretzels. we had as an appetizer the bbq tofu w/ crispy spinach which was delicious. spicy and sweet. my girlfriend had the veggie tortilla soup, which was hearty and tasty. I had a pressed caprese and pesto sandwich with a side of hot and crisp air-baked fries. it had tomato and buffalo mozzarella on a crisp pressed bread. we also had a nice side of banana nut squash puree. everything was very good. all plates were left clean.

the service was very warm and accommodating.

soups, salads, sandwiches (both pressed and non-pressed), and pastas tended to be in the $5-$12 range with most in the $8-10 area. Entrees are a bit more. We spent about $22 for what we had.

the other great perk is that they have a little out door patio out front with three or four 4-tops and you can sit out there with your dog making this a great dog-friendly option.
