Can anyone share any good restaurants that either have good kids menus with real food, or that is happy to do smaller portions of main entrees for small children?
I don't mean "kid friendly." Kid friendly has come to represent crayons, coloring books, and junk kids food menus.
My toddlers are very adventurous eaters, thanks to cooking and serving a wide variety of foods at home, but going out to eat is always difficult because even at nice restaurants young kids are only given options of chicken fingers, mac and cheese and all the usual "kids food." We all know it is crap, and yeah, it is all some kids will eat so it is great that restaurants offer it. I'm getting tired though of having to get creative with the menu trying to combine side dishes with appetizers to create a meal for a 2 or 3 year old that loves to have good food.
Can anyone recommend any restaurants that do a better job of catering to "foodie kids"? Am I just stuck buying $30 entrees for a 2 year old to avoid the dreaded kids menu? I know some types of cuisine are better suited to this, we don't usually have issue going to a japanese restaurant because I can order them a sushi roll or something, but try going to a French restaurant or anything similar serving a typical entree and you'll find escargot served for the adults and chicken fingers for the kids.
