Food52 - meh

StevietheFish | Feb 6, 202009:34 AM     5

I just recently started receiving a feed from Food52. I've just received a survey from them to evaluate my feelings about what they do well, where they could improve, etc., and it brought me to reflect on it. My reaction is ambivalent. I'm a pretty good home cook, have a complete batterie de cuisine, and have no need of or interest in gadgetry, and that seems to be, if not their focus, certainly their lead-in. They do have a huge number of recipes, but I've noticed some errors. I don't think that everything sees a test kitchen. A few days ago I was searching for recipes for Passover, and found one for Russian honey cake and one for lamb shanks, both of which used all purpose flour. Editors, when collating recipes, should be aware of the relevant criteria for different categories. I have to say that the very NYC-centric focus and tone don't bother me (I live in Toronto) but I could understand if others find it off-putting. Some of the personal essays are quite good.
