No guarantee. But, today, when a news story mentioned that the general elections would be held on Sunday, and that the local polling place would be in Long Island City, I was reminded of a chance encounter with the election site four years ago. That was in Astoria, across from Masjid al-Hikmah:
Since I was on my way to the Indonesian bazaar, I stopped only for photos. Note, too, that this previous encounter was on a short-sleeve day in April, during a run-off election; a good coat will be needed tomorrow.
Even so, that news story noted that some 70,000 Ecuadorian New Yorkers are eligible to vote in the national elections. Odds are good that, barring dreadful weather, some opportunistic food vendors will set up shop. The polling station will be at LaGuardia Community College, 31-10 Thomson Ave., Building E (at Van Dam St.), Long Island City. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
