Here is the rundown on the food we enjoyed on a recent trip to Tucson. Thanks to the Chowhounds who provided some tips that helped inform our eating itinerary!
1. El Charro:
- An oldie but goodie
- We feared "tourist trap" but found the food surprisingly good. The best chips and salsa to nibble on of all; and excellent carne seca (machaca)
2. La Poca Cosa:
- Very good but not great
- Interesting, fresh ingredients but just not "blown away" compared to other regional Mexican we've tried (we LOVE Lula in Santa Monica, CA)
3. La Placita:
- Excellent Lomo de Adobo (pork tenderloin)
- Other specialties, pretty good, including the Tres Leches cake. I neeed to find a recipe for that!
And on another note: if you go wine tasting on the way to Bisbee or other points South, don't miss Callaghan. Everything we tasted was good (and we are, self-admittedly, CA small-winery wine snobs)
