need food processor and blender rec

Ok, I should have known better, but I got the Cuisinart blender/mini food processor combo over @ Costco. It was a good price, about $40, and the blender is glass. This machine has no power! I had the hardest time turning frozen blueberries into a puree. I started out with just the berries at first, and the blender stalled. Then I added water, about a cup, and it still had the hardest time. I have to stop and stir the mixture every 10 seconds or so. It took about 20 minutes to puree a small bag of blueberries. The food processor struggled with pesto, and just stopped when chopping hazelnuts and chocolate.

So, any suggestions on which blender and food processor to get? I want machines that are powerful and will last. I don't need anything fancy, just machines that do well in what they're supposed to do (like the KitchenAid stand mixer). I also would want them to be easy to clean. I understand that I'm going to have to spend more than $40 for both, but would like to keep cost under $300 for 2 good quality machines. Thanks!
