I was just watching Giada for a few seconds to see if she had something worth the pain, and right away I was taken down memory lane with the vocabulary she invented for food shows. "Grab" and "throw" in one or two sentences. It seems that nowadays, no one -- no one -- can bring themselves to say "take a spoon" or "place the pan in the oven." Will there be a pendulum shift? Oh yes, if it isn't "golden brown," it isn't worthwhile!

I blame Rachel Ray for some of this. Her "vocab" was unique and I don't think it spread to as many tv cooks, at least not for as long. "EVOO" just grates on my nerves, as does "sammi." "Delish" is not as bad and probably did not see its beginnings with Rachel.

Then there is Martha Stewart. She was way ahead of her time with "herbs" (pronounce the "h"), but her attempt to sound superior going the other way than Giada and Rachel is funny. I would rather hear aristocratic language than trash talk.
