When you run out of it, what's the one food or liquid you rush to replace? And has that changed often over the years--or have you always had to have X in your fridge or pantry?
For my part, to echo something Eric Asimov recently wrote, there is almost no food that cannot be improved by being wrapped in a good corn tortilla. I am never without tortillas. A year ago, I would have said fresh hot jalapeño peppers, and a year before that I would have said Manchego or Idiazabal cheese.
