Food Critic Reviews

I once read a piece from a food writer saying that accepting free meals, or acknowledging one's profession, doesn't mean that the review might be tainted.

Although I don't feel that free food will necessarily influence the review, I do believe that the establishment's knowledge of the writer will affect the meal.
And, without acknowledgement, no free meal.

Are we to believe that "Joe-Bob Foodguy", calling in for a reservation, will always get the same service/meal that we would, walikng in and ordering off the menu.

Any thoughts?
