My husband is giving a lecture on the champagne method to his research lab this week and we're inviting a bunch of people to our house that evening to try a variety of wines. No one knows much if anything about sparkling wne. We're planning on serving a few bottles - the sparkling wines may change based on how many are coming, but we were thinking of two CA (at different price points,) two French (same) a Cava and a Rose. Based on what we have in our cellar right now, perhaps Gloria Ferrer Brut, S. Anderson blanc de noirs, Michel Freres blanc de blancs and rose, Gaston Chiquet Brut, and Cristallino.
What I am primarily looking for are simple hors d'oeuvres that people think will work well and won't break the bank.
Our favorite, especially w/ a b de b, is buttered popcorn! I may have some of that, but I guess I am looking for things with a bit more flair. I was thinking of goat cheese, warm nuts, perhaps olives and some salmon mousse (I have a recipe that always worked well at parties, but I haven't made it in awhile as Jack is anti-dill.) Maybe some veggie sushi? Quiche?
