Yimster had posted about one of our favorite Chinese restaurants on the Peninsula -- Tai Wu in Foster City -- and mentioned that the same owners run Mr. Fong's Seafood. We went there for Easter dinner and were very impressed.
Not only is the food good, but the restaurant is right on the Foster City Lagoon and boasts a pretty view. You can get dizzy watching the water currents and feeling like you're floating along in a boat!
We started with a BBQ Pork appetizer, which was succulent and just enough sweetness and reminded us of the same dish at Tai Wu. Then we had the Dried Scallop with Assorted Meat soup. Sometimes the broth in these soups gets kind of gloppy (too much cornstarch?) but this was perfect. We finished the whole bowl. Then came Szechuan Eggplant with Shredded Pork clay pot, which had a delightful, subtle sauce that seemed to mix sweet and sour with tomato along with large juicy pieces of Japanese eggplant. We also ordered a 1/2 order of roast duck and it had a perfect crispy skin and juicy fat underneath. Even the steamed rice was great.
At the end of the meal we were presented with a VIP card to bring on our next visit, which would allow us one free dish to be ordered from a special menu that looked quite interesting (not your regular fare). We were also told that they serve dim sum from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. We can't wait to go back!
