It seems Flor de Izote is currently in full bloom. If you have one of these in your back yard, it is not just an ornamental shrub. In Central America it is fried with butter and a little salt and pepper.
It is supposed to be delicous. I haven't tried it yet, but a friend of mine is promising to hack one down with a machete.
They are supposedly one of nature's most nutritional and delicious foods and make a great addition to green salads, chicken soup, casseroles or fried with eggs and potatoes
Anyone tried these. Just thought I'd pass the info along in case you have one blooming in the back yard and didn't know you had a culinary treasure.
Here's more info and a picture.
