A year ago, I followed up mike0989's rec for the burger at Flavor Factory in Morro Bay.

As he described it's located in an aged strip mall. We actually had a little trouble spotting it because the structure is set back and elevated above street level.
We shared everything starting with a cup of the soup of the day, Albondigas, $3.50. The meatballs were lightened with some rice and served in a robust tomato base with vegetables and chickpeas. With a little kick to it, I'd describe it as Italian-American meets abuela.
Classic burger including fries for $9 was a bargain. A little too much pretzel bun in relation to the size of the hamburger patty, and the meat was more done than the medium-rare I ordered. Yet, still very flavorful, juicy and nicely charred. The meat's house-ground daily of brisket, top round and chuck hormone-free beef. The steak fries were CRUNCHY and nicely seasoned.
For our second sandwich order, a $2 upcharge to sub for fries paid for a small plate from the abundant salad bar. Very fresh veggies and nice selection, along with housemade dressings.
Shrimp po' boy, $15, one of the day's specials, was overflowing with cornmeal-crusted shrimp. But the bread was not airy enough and we probably would not order this again.
Early on a Friday evening, Flavor Factory was packed with families with kids and seemed popular with a steady stream of take-out orders too. The burgers are quite a deal and one can eat well for not much money here.
