flan recipe

I have mine - from at least 3 decades ago - and probably haven't made it since - but have been requested to make one for this weekend. I would GREATLY appreciate your sharing your tried and true recipe - I am leaning towards a plain, traditional vanilla flan as opposed to other flavors - unless you feel strongly about yours. I have been searching for Rick Bayless' recipe but have only come up with his caramel sauce and a chococake flan. My recipe doesn't call for constant beating while the eggs milk are cooking but I have read here that someone recommends that - it kind of makes sense but have no clue!
