Flames in Mattapan

My wife and I decided to check out Flames (Jamaican) after reading posts on this board.

Excellent little restaurant. New and clean. Emphasis is definitely on takeout, but there is a very nice eat-in area as well.

I had rice and beans with curried goat and also asked them to throw in a dumpling that looking interesting. Very tasty. Lots of black pepper in the curried goat. Nice and tender. The rice had been flavored with coconut and was alson very tasty. The dumpling was very dense and satisfying. I also had Irish Moss drink which was thick and flavored with nutmeg. Sort of a cross between soy milk and egg nogg. Not bad.

My wife had the beef stew which was very rich and tasty. She also had the sweet plantains which were nicely done. Our whole lunch was $20 with the Moss drink and two bottles of water.

Much more to explore: oxtail, stew chicken, callaloo greens, saltfish and ackee for breakfast. All sorts of interesting dense desserts. Definitely worth a return trip.
