flambeed banana - what alcohol can i sub?

i'm trying out flambeed bananas tonight with some friends. my recipe and recipes i have looked up all call for cognac or grand marnier or banana liquer - which i could go buy...
but i do have rum or scotch. am i able to use these as a substitute??
