Flagstaff-Page visit

Cashchik | Aug 12, 2005 05:20 AM

My sweetie and I took a three day jaunt through Flagstaff up to Page and back to Flag. Let me say that we are very casual and don’t often do really high end dining. We also don’t usually eat three meals a day and we aren’t wine drinkers.
We lunched at Salsa Brava in Flag. I had Shrimp enchiladas and SO had Carnitas. The food was good but nothing really super. SO really liked the pineapple habenero salsa.
In Page late, we were looking for something light, went to the Starlight. This place is a cross between a small town diner and a Chinese restaurant. We ordered cheeseburgers and split an order of fries. The burgers were good and the fries excellent. The Chinese that was being delivered to other diners smelled good and looked good. Will try that on a future visit.
Locals suggested Ranch House Grill for breakfast and this was a great suggestion. This place is only open 6am to 3pm and breakfast is their specialty. I had the Spicy Tortilla which is hash browns, salsa, green chilies, cheese, chorizo, and eggs on a crispy flour tortilla. Sounds like a mess but it was neatly layered and the flavors all distinct. And spicy it was. I loved it. SO had Huevos Ranchero and they were equally good. We were there at 6:15am and the servers were all very bright and cheerful.
In Flag that evening we went to Beaver Street Brewery for dinner. This is my sweetie’s favorite. He and friends have done some serious backpacking trips near Page and a stop at BSB on the return trip is a ritual. My first time to visit but I had heard good things from the guys and also people on this board. And everyone was right. I started with a cup of roasted garlic chicken soup that was delicious. My entrée was the Crispy Cajun Catfish. It was wonderful. SO had the Enchanted Forest pizza which was very tasty. I don’t recall everything on the pizza but I know there were portabellas, spinach, red bell pepper and brie. Excellent food and great microbrews.
While we were walking around town I did manage to read the posted menus of several restaurants. I have three on the short list to try on future visits. They are Monsoon, Barefoot BBQ, Pesto Bros. Piazza. If anyone has tried any of these I would really enjoy hearing your thoughts.
