Is it expected/mandatory that dining companions choose the same fixed menu? I would tend to choose the smallest, while my husband will likely go all out. (Although we would likely taste each other's dishes.) In San Francisco, I have been places where if you choose the prix fixe option, everyone at your table must be on board, but I have not been to any restaurants where multiple set menus are offered - so I am unclear on etiquette.
Specifically, we have reservations at Chez l'Ami Jean and L'Assiette Champenoise in the Champagne region. I will definitely post a trip report! The boards have been so helpful in planning our last-minute trip to Paris!
