tried out both of these places in the past week.
umami: everything i'd heard is true. we had duck quesadilla, wild boar spring rolls, a thai chicken curry dish, and ahi tuna tacos with guacamole/wasabi. the tuna tacos were wonderful; the duck wasn't great, but i'm not a big fan of duck, so that likely means it was pretty good. the sauce on top of it was good, in any event. the spring rolls were interesting, and the curry had just the right texture and sweet flavour. will definitely go back.
sapore steak house - on main st., fishkill, where the old union house used to be. was told that the owner owns 3 other restaurants; i believe they're all in newburgh, but i couldn't remember their names.
flew solo, had a porterhouse and mashed potatoes. the potatoes were with white truffles, were completely smooth and the taste was delicious. 3.50.
the porterhouse was 29, and was good, not great. there were no additional spices to flavor the beef, but it was better than the other steak places i've eaten in poughkeepsie area (ie. 811 bourbon). they overcooked from what i wanted, unfortunately.
i may go back, but would first be interested to try (or hear more about) the place in new windsor. and will likely try flames (though it's an hour away) before going back...
