It somehow eluded me that the Long Island chain Green Cactus Grill had opened a shop in Forest Hills. I was reading some back issues of Newsday, when I saw that they had a Forest Hills location. Having heard about their fish tacos, I knew I had to check it out, since all the others I've had in NYC have been pretty lousy. While these specimens are not life altering, they probably are the best I've had in NYC, and certainly good enough to hold over a hankering until I get to the west coast. They follow the general rules of proper fish tacos -- breaded fried fish, shredded cabbage, bit of cream, and some kind of salsa, lime to squeeze on, in corn tortillas. Their default salsa is pretty weak, but they do have two different reliable brands of bottled hot sauce on the tables (Tapatio and Cholula) which adds some good heat and flavor. The rest of the menu looks pretty uninteresting.
