When at Midway, I usually grab a bit at Lalo's, the mexican chain that has several branches throughout Chicago. Yesterday, I made the mistake of ordering fish tacos. I've made fish tacos before and they can be truly sublime with a decent bit of fresh fish, lime, avacado, a fresh salsa...you get the idea. Anyway, at Lalo's they deep fat fry frozen fish (apparently in lard). What's worse is the cook chopped up the fish within the cooker mid-way in the fry cycle. After the fish was done deep-frying, he then dropped the whole mess on the grill for some surface frying (?!?!?!?). I regret not-walking away after observing this as I proceeded to eat the tacos and felt nauseous the rest of the night.
I may be in the minority here but I believe it is possible to make healthy food that is also Chowhoundish. Anyone know how to get food that is both at Midway?
