I love nuoc mum- the Thai Fish Sauce. In my various readings, I learned about Garum- said to be very close to fish sauce- if not the same thing, and a favorite condiment of the Ancient Romans and other Mediterreans. I buy nuoc mum for a couple of bucks, maybe 3. The other day at the Italian market in Chelsea market they had a bottle of garum for $86! Could it be worth it? Could it be some how better, or different? It certainly looked the same.
And I did verify the price with the cashier.
