Well after a rather frustrating attempt to find dry scallops in Queens, I headed to Citarella this afternoon, to find that their's looked quite lousy today, which is unusual as they are generally quite reliable. Got some of their good rock shrimp and squid instead, BUT, why oh why cannot there not be a high end fish market in Queens anywhere? The place I go to on 108th st, has decent shrimp usually, but their scallops are with preservative, and they don't sell cleaned squid alot of times, or it seems like it's been hanging out there.......The 2 fish markets on Austin Street are absolutely lousy and way overpriced. And in Jamaica on Sutphin blvd there are no dry scallops--or rock shrimp, and the places are more chaotic and rude than a zoo.
So, where can I go? Please help. I will go anywhere in Queens or not that far into Long Island, as shlepping to Citarella, and dealing with the traffic back out to Forest Hills, is becoming too much of a hassle.
Does anyone know about the wholesale fish distrib in Long Island City, I think they are kind of near the alternate entrance to the LIE tunnel? Will they sell to a retail person, or are the quantities probably huge?
PLEASE HELP!! Thanks!
