Fish Crazy recently opened in Tamiami Square in the former Naples Tomato on Tamiami Trail north of Wiggins Pass Rd. This is the newest baby from Randy formerly of Rodes and Randy's Fishmarket. It's very casual, moderately priced, and has an indoor bocce court. There's an attached retail market not yet fully stocked but they are carrying fresh Alaskan king salmon for $18.99/lb which is a very good price. As the retail market becomes more stocked the restaurant menu will expand.
We started with a nice wedge salad with a good dressing including chunks of blue cheese and crispy bacon. Avoid the gumbo-it was gummy and not very tasty-the only miss of the night. Our entrees were superb. The fish and chips were some of the best ever with perfectly moist fish and breading incredibly crispy yet light. No idea how they achieved that-maybe with egg whites added. They also make a great shrimp and grits. It's Chef Ed’s Shrimp & Grits with sautéed Gulf shrimp, chorizo, mushrooms & scallions, served over whipped goat cheese grits.
They have a very reasonable selection of wines by the glass.
It's really nice to have another fun moderately priced seafood restaurant in the area. I'm happy Randy was able to open during season.
