We tried this tonight for the first time. Every year on our birthdays my family picks a new restaurant to try out and celebrate. I had heard all about Todd English and was excited to try his latest restaurant in Seattle.

Highly disappointed is the best way to sum up our experience. The atmosphere is lacking, the service is terrible and the food is marginal. They do push the mixed drinks, no wonder at $9 a pop.

We complained after an hour and a half that our entrees had not arrived. In our party of six, two people got salads, one soup, and two starters. They served my starter, then my mom's, then the salads after they cleared my starter and then the soup. Bad timing on that. The bus boy almost knocked my sister's drink over while refilling her water glass. Luckily my mom noticed it tipping and grabbed it before it spilled.

The only entree that was cooked properly, ironically was the steak. My paella was overcooked as was the snapper, the salmon was cold and underdone and the ahi was cold. In addition, 2 out of 3 mussels in my dish did not open and were inedible. We asked to speak to the manager who was very defensive about our complaints and didn't offer us any kind of compensation.

The kicker was that when my mom made the reservation, they asked if it was a special occasion. She told them yes, it was a birthday. Apparently this was just for informational purposes, because they didn't offer me a free dessert or mention it at all. We even opened presents at the table to kill time between courses.

We will not be back. Finally, the valet was incompetent too. They said they would have our cars waiting. 1 out of 3 were there. They didn't open the door for me even though I was carrying a shopping bag with my gifts and my leftovers. And they pulled our car up tightly behind a Saab whose owner was not around. We had to back up to maneuver around it.

Next year if I want good seafood I'll head to Oceanaire or Flying Fish instead.
