Fish and Chips

Never a great fan of the great british dish that normally turns out to be a greasy, soggy disappointment, I'm a convert as a result of visiting The Fish Club in Clapham, London. If batter is your preference, the traditional coley or haddock with chips and all the accompaniments (mushy peas, pickles, tartare sauce) can't be beaten, but there are also grilled or pan fried options (the dover slip sole was excellent), fantastic oysters bursting with the flavour of the sea and simple, high quality salads. Eat in at the front or in the pretty blue room upstairs at shared tables, or take out, but consider saving room for delicious deserts. Great value, joyful service.
